Alternative Fitness

Introducing Airborn Academy

It’s January and all around us are declarations of ‘New Year, New You!’ The shops are filled with the kind of Lycra that make the mince pie munching moments seem a terrible mistake and we quickly begin formulating plans to test, tone and tighten the bits that have gone slightly astray.

But for those of you with more Christmas elves than just yourself to look after in the new year some suggestions on alternative fitness for young people may come in handy.

Airborn academy in North Liverpool opened in 2013 and at the time was the first facility of its kind in the country. The urban sports facility boasts an obstacle ‘Modublox’ set up, competition size sprung floor, cirque style aerial equipment and dance studio, along with an innovative raised training area containing a dynamic bar set up, sunken trampolines and fast track, all leading to the state of the art stunt airbag. The space is an outlet for the bounds of energy bursting from the young people that spring through the door.

Airborn is run by qualified instructors and coaches who can often be found honing their own technique out of hours at the centre. The wealth of talent and expertise allows Airborn to specialise in alternative urban sports including Cheerleading, Trampolining, Tumbling, Breakdancing, Aerial Silks and Hoop, and Martial Arts Tricking. Throughout January we’ll be looking closer to see what opportunities are available for the kids of Liverpool to literally fly through 2019.
